International Conference on Urbanization and street vendors, November 9th and 10th 2016
The IFRA Nairobi and its partners would like to thank all the participants of the International Conference on Urbanization and street vendors. This conference was held on the 9th and 10th of November 2016, at IFRA Nairobi .
The conference brought more than 20 academics from multiple disciplines, approaches and regions (EA, Central Africa, Europe, India, etc.), with an aim to address informal vending as an individual and a collective resource. It addressed issues like the spatial dynamics of street vending, the landscape of actors and politics of street vending, the urban governance and the public space, the circulations and urban-rural linkages of informal vending and the insertion of informal vending to transnational networks. A round table has been held with local authority representatives, leaders of street vendors and of Micro & Small enterprise organizations and with academics. An artistic event with local and foreign artists have closed the first day of the conference.
